Dan, thanks for this summary. It’s frightening what they’re doing. The governor’s comment at the parent’s event the other night about public schools “indoctrinating” children is appalling. The world is changing, Iowa is changing, and they want to drag us back into the 1950’s.
It is scary Dave, thanks for you comment. The only way out of this is to vote our way out. Democrats and Independents need to understand the severity of the situation and get organized and ready to go for 2024.
Sadly, this falls right inline with the goals of Christian Nationalism. Ruin the public schools, go with private religious schools so a Christian curriculum can be taught, and then exclusion and segregation can be put in place. Very sad, very scary.
As a father of 4, 1 of whom needs some special attention at school, and having used private and public schools... I can't tell you how upset this makes me. I'm just...sigh. Let's just say that if the opportunity presents itself to go somewhere else I'm gonna be looking pretty hard.
Brian, I really feel for you. My kids are grown and have their own children some of which are in Iowa schools. But for children that need special attention such as your child, I hope the funding will not be cut. They did give a 3% growth in money for schools, but with inflation running at 7%, it seems they are still falling behind. Take care...
