Because although it’s a great honor being president, I think I have an obligation to the country to do … the most important thing we can do, and that is, we must, we must, we must defeat Trump.”
Everything about the Biden-Harris and now the Harris-Walz team has baffled and outmaneuvered Trump. It is hard for Trump to understand things like stepping down from power and bringing a message of hope and renewal to a badly beaten-down middle class. Biden's timely and unprecedented move has thrown Trump off guard, and he has no answer to Harris’s campaign message of hope and uplift for the working classes. Trump has no idea how to run a campaign against a strong, smart, and capable woman.
Trump's singular strategy is to win at all costs to stay out of jail. He has no message of hope for the American people. His message is a whiney and phony message of retribution against his enemies. It is a campaign built around looking backward and seeking retribution, ending his prosecutions, and then spending as much time as possible on his golf courses.
His life motto is to dominate and control every situation and every person. He hates when he cannot dominate a situation or a person. He especially hates it when he cannot dominate a woman, in this case, a woman of color who is out campaigning, out rallying, out speaking, and out fund-raising Trump…by a lot.
What truly gets Trump’s orange makeup in a smudge is that he believed he was on the road to an easy win in November. He wouldn’t even have to work very hard, which he always prioritizes. He wanted to spend more time playing golf than campaigning. Now…that has all changed.
Biden did the most unpredictable and unexpected thing: He dropped out of the race. Biden passionately wanted to defeat Trump a second time, and it was likely the hardest decision of his political life. Biden had so much at stake politically and personally, yet he put the country ahead of himself. That was the right hook that Trump didn’t see coming.
This was a move that Trump couldn’t have predicted because, in his own limited narcissistic mind, it is unthinkable to drop out. He would never consider doing so, therefore, he can’t believe someone else would do it.
In an ironic twist, Biden’s decision to drop out of the race may ultimately give him the victory he so desires. Sometimes, retreat is the best pathway to victory. By turning over the nomination to Kamala Harris, Biden has recreated a whole new scenario and dynamic that jeopardizes Trump’s victory. And it happened overnight.
In one moment, Biden pulled the rug out from under Donald Trump, forcing him to adjust, which he doesn’t know how to do, and denied him the possibility of a retributive victory in November. Trump would have loved nothing more than to gloat with glee at a punishing victory over Joe Biden. Dominate, control, and punish your opponent; that is what Trump was looking forward to. However, Biden has stolen that possibility from Trump. And worse, Biden did it in a way that Trump loathes…through humility and stepping back to let others achieve and win.
Sometimes, you have to lose in order to win.
Trump will never understand that principle of life. He is incapable of any thought that doesn’t promote him and his ego. So Biden’s bowing out of the race has done something no one could have predicted…it has exposed Trump for who he is.
He has been caught flat-footed with no strategy to deal with a strong woman of color who now is surging in the polls. His age has all of a sudden become the subject of media scrutiny (much too late, in my opinion). He looks floundering and foolish as he tries to come up with catchy names to stick on Harris and Walz, but nothing seems to stick. Most of all, he is angry about the size of Kamala’s rally crowds. Nothing seems to bother Mr. Trump more than someone who outsizes him… crowd size, that is.
Then there is media attention in general. Kamala is now getting all the free press that Trump took for granted in his two prior election attempts. Kamala is the media darling, and Trump has to turn to more outlandish and ridiculous stunts to try and get the camera back on him. His failed interview at the Black Journalists Convention is a case in point. The odd and weird presser at Mar-A-Lago is another. Trump is throwing tantrums because he can no longer dominate the news cycle. The only thing he reaps from his sad and sick attempts to get attention is greater scrutiny and derision for his racism and misogyny, which are now on full display.
If I were to guess, I suspect Joe Biden is sitting in an easy chair at night in the White House, watching all of this unfold and finding a certain degree of satisfaction in the Trump campaign's flailing and bobbling. He is watching Donald squirm and whine! He knows that Trump is furious at his dropping out of the race, and he knows Trump is deathly afraid of losing again. Joe Biden has denied Trump any satisfaction from beating him. That is the brilliance of Biden’s decision. The win will ultimately go to Biden.
Most of all, Biden’s retreat may ultimately be the maneuver that leads to jail time for Mr. Trump. If Vice President Harris prevails in the election, she will deny him the singular prime motive for his run for the Presidency…immunity and the end to prosecutions. That is why Trump is so desperate and whiney. He is now shrinking before our eyes, and his motives are clear to all.
Assuming Harris and Walz win in November, and we need to pray that they do, Joe Biden will be the real winner right along with them. He may not be the President, but he will go down in our history as the one who helped save the country from the destructive and corrupt Donald Trump.
Biden lost his re-election in order to win it. Thank you Joe!
